Rails

From the first rolling in 1908/9, rails and railway structures from Piombino mill have been adopted by the Italian Railways and used for building the entire Italian rail network.

The constant upgrade of the rail manufacturing line has allowed Lucchini to become an international leader.

Piombino rails are shipped by both railway and sea, using the mill’s inner harbour.

Managing its own railway fleet and continuously improving its inner harbour for shipping rails up to 108-meter long, allow Lucchini to operate i n international markets. Its high flexibility, increase shipping reliability and quality to customers.

Internal and external handling activities by proper plants and equipment ensure maximum product integrity.

Rails manufactured with Phalesia 110 steel (PH110), a new pearlitic steel developed for use on high traffic density lines, especially for extremely-short radius bends, Ph110 has been designed to maximize resistance to fatigue phenomena after contact and wear resistance.

Welding PH110 is the same as standard steels. This steel is mid-way between the traditional R260 and thermally-treated rails.
